"We want to pick up our first away win"

We spoke with our experienced midfielder about his return, the league match against Tiszakécske, and our upcoming match against Kozármisleny.

After more than 12 years away, you took to the pitch again in a Vidi shirt in the previous round of the league. How did it feel to play for Videoton again?

I am very happy to be a Videoton player again. When I made the decision, I clearly listened to my heart. Before the league match against Tiszakécske, I also played for Vidi in the MOL Hungarian Cup, and so far I have two wins and an 8-0 goal difference to my name—obviously, this is not because of me, but it feels good to have returned with two wins. I've been welcomed into a great atmosphere in the dressing room, I'm enjoying working with the team and, as I said, I'm also happy that we've won our last two competitive matches. What's more, we dominated on both occasions and imposed our will on the pitch.

You weren't even 18 when you left Vidi, and now you're one of the most experienced players in the dressing room. How strange is it for you to now be mentoring the many young players in the first team, both on and off the pitch?

That's true, but I can only think of how much help I got from experienced players like Nikolic, Gyuri Sándor, Balázs Tóth, and Roli Juhász when Paulo Sousa brought me up to the first team at the age of 16. That's why I realize that it means a lot to today's young players when we experienced players help them. I try to be as good a mentor as those excellent players I mentioned earlier were.

In the match against Tiszakécske, you proved on the pitch that these are not just empty words, as even in a 100% scoring opportunity, you had the heart to pass the ball to Dani Bertók, who scored his first league goal.

That's true, but I wouldn't attach too much importance to it. Wherever I've played, I've always put the team's interests before my own, and in this situation, I thought that I had a teammate who was in a better position than me. Obviously, it feels good to score a goal, but for me, it's also uplifting when I can help a teammate. And the fact that I was able to help a young, home-grown player score his first league goal makes it feel even better. I hope that scoring his first goal will give Dani Bertók extra motivation and that he will be able to score more goals in a Videoton shirt in the future. He works very humbly and hard in training, he really deserved the goal, but it's important that he doesn't rest on his laurels and continues to work hard.

On Sunday afternoon, we visit Kozármisleny. We're doing well at home, but we've only picked up one point in three away games so far. What kind of match are you expecting in Kozármisleny?

It would be great if we could carry our home form over to away games. I've played at Kozármisleny's home ground several times, and we've never had an easy game there. You could even say that teams don't go there to win. I know Kozármisleny's coach from Honvéd; he is an extremely well-prepared professional who will certainly prepare his players very well against us. I expect them to try to play football and not just kick the ball forward. However, I wouldn't want to go into too much detail about our opponents, as we need to focus on ourselves and our own game. It's important that we play with the same discipline and tactics as we did last time against Tiszakécske. We would like to get our first away win of the season.
