Very good league start
In the 2022/2023 season, MTK played in the NB II and finished second behind DVTK, so they managed to get back to the top division immediately after the relegation year. Dávid Horváth's side finished 8th in the league last season. Friday's opponents started the new season in fine style, winning 1-0 at home to ZTE, 2-1 away in Győr and 3-0 at home to newcomers Nyíregyháza. MTK's only defeat so far came at home to leaders Puskás Akadémia in Round 4. On the last matchday, the Blue-Whites did not play Paks, as the Tolna-based team is in the Conference League play-offs and took advantage of their postponement opportunity.

The legend shared by the two clubs
The legendary head coach of Vidi - Ferenc Kovács - the manager of our 1985 UEFA Cup finalists and honorary president of our club, made his debut in the top flight as a home-grown player of MTK in 1954. In 1964, he played in the UEFA Cup final with MTK: in the final against Sporting Lisbon, Ferenc Kovács started the first match in Brussels, which ended 3-3, and then in the replay in Antwerp, which was a 1-0 Portuguese victory. He is still the only Hungarian to have played in an international cup final with a Hungarian team, both as a footballer and as a head coach.
