Another season that did not end too well with the team battling to remain in the first division.
Half a dozen new arrivals – Laszlo Disztl retires
The previous season had ended with play off's needing to be played. Manager Karoly Szabo remained in his job and continued to prepare the squad for the season ahead.
There were several arrivals in different positions over the summer transfer season. Midfielder Henrik Rosa came in from Salgotarjan. Nigerian Precious Onyeabor Monyet arrived from AC Reggina. Attlia Korsos made the short move from Sopron FC. Another new arrival was midfielder Sandor Varsanyi from ZTE. Two more players came in during the course of the autumn season with defender Zoltan Jagodics on loan from Győr and 24 year old Brazilian forward Juliano Carlos Alves.
There were several departures including Zoltan Kuntics to Ferencvaros and Mihaly Toth to Honved. Midfielders Imre Fodor and Andras Cseh all left, as did forward Gyula Jonas, Antal Puhalak and Krisztian Weninger. Laszlo Disztl decided to call it a day at the age of 32 and ended his playing career. He was battling at the time with a serious knee injury. Another player to finish his career due to injury was midfielder Andras Zombori.
The league starts with another defeat
The season kicked off at the home of Vasas and a 2-0 loss. Two wins followed over Pecs 3-1 and Vac 2-1. There was a visit to MTK on the final day of August. The teams went in at half time with the score at 2-2, but the home side scored 3 more goals in the second half to run out 5-2 winners.
Three defeats were next against Győr, Debrecen and Csepel with President Bravacz Otto resigning the following week. The board named Ferenc Bognar as his replacement but things did not improve with a 4-0 beating against Ujpest.
The 5-0 defeat to Honved cost manager Karoly Szabo his job following that game. He was replaced by Ferenc Csongradi, who was assisted by Jozsef Szabo. Csongradi made his debut on the bench in the game against ZTE. That resulted in a 3-1 loss with newly signed Jagodics scoring Vidi's goal. There was a better result against Haladas as two Ferenc Horvath goals secured the points.
The autumn season ended with the team in bottom place with just 10 points. There were 3 wins, 1 draw and 11 defeats.
Play off's are needed
The board extended the contracts of Csongradi and Szabo until the end of the season. The Winter transfer season included a contract being offered to Rajmund Donat from Veszprem. Attila Szalai joined from Csepel. Joszip Dulics arrived from Spartak Subotica, and the 25 year old playmaker was joined by keeper Zoltan Kujundzsic. Defender Andras Javorka switched from MTK and midfielder Tamas Peto moved from Győr, together with Vasile Miriuta. Forward Lajos Takacs returned from Sopron.
A total of 8 players were placed on the transfer list, which included keeper Peter Disztl moving on to Keszthely. Defender Zoltan Jagodics joined Ferencvaros while Henrik Rosa and defender Andras Kereszturi moved to Budapest club Csepel.
There was a change of name on the 9th March with Fehervar Parmalat FC now being known as Fehervar '96 FC. Debts were wiped out and the team had the chance to concentrate of football and move up the league table. Yet another change of name happened just a month later with the new name of Fehervar Parmalat 96 Football Club, as the new sponsors signed a deal until the end of the season.
The spring season started with a 1-0 defeat to Vasas. The target despite that loss was a 9-10 place finish in the league table, which was a realistic target. The next seven games saw the team remain undefeated and there were good performances against MTK 3-0 and Debrecen 4-1.
Stadler would end that good run of results, which had also included a 2-2 draw with third in the table Ujpest. They had allowed a two goal lead to slip through their fingers and had to settle for a point. Several players were missing due to injuries and suspensions as Csongradi's team lost 2-1 to Ferencvaros
The season ended with the team in 13th place. That meant a play off with Diosgyőr.
Tight battle against relegation
The home game with Diosgyőr did not go too well at the start of the match. The 6000 supporters ended up seeing their side come from behind to win 2-1.
Ferenc Horvath put Fehervar ahead in the second leg after 18 minutes. However, the 90 minutes ended with the home side leading 2-1. Extra time resulted in a battling team effort and a 4-3 aggregate win to secure first division status. The club planned their future around manager Ferenc Csongradi.
Survial and cup exit
The team went out over two legs to ZTE. They had won 2-1 in the first leg but suffered a 2-0 home defeat to exit the Hungarian cup.
